JUSTIN MOORE AND SCOTT BORCHETTA JOINTLY NAMED HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR BY THE ARMED FORCES FOUNDATION

    April 11, 2014 0 Comments

The Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) jointly named ACM New Artist of the Year Justin Moore and BMLG President/CEO Scott Borchetta the “Congressman Bill and Beverly Young Humanitarian of the Year” for their service and commitment to the morale and welfare of military families through the Crown Royal “Your Hero’s Name Here” contest and other endeavors. The pair were honored during the 10th annual Congressional Gala in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night (4/9).

“The work that Patricia Driscoll and the Armed Forces Foundation is doing is extraordinary – and unfortunately – beyond necessary. She and the AFF have identified the real challenges that so many of our troops go through upon their reentry into society. This is the kind of organization that the Big Machine Label Group and I will always support,” said Borchetta.

“Although extremely grateful, I feel a little uncomfortable being honored at an event where there are decorated war heroes present. I feel that my contributions are much less significant than theirs … they are the true American heroes,” stated Moore. “However, I’m thrilled to know that what I do with the AFF has helped, and that it is appreciated by all. Both of my grandpas served in our military and they, along with my parents, instilled in me what our servicemen and women mean to us. It was an honor to tell some of them face to face last night. God bless our troops and God bless America.”

The special ceremony brought together more than 75 Members of Congress to help honor our nation’s service members, veterans, and their families – many recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir’s Warrior Transition Brigade, and from other local installations. Throughout the event, AFF recognized Cessna and individuals for their commitment to the Foundation’s motto of “Serving those who Serve.” Celebrity supporters in attendance included NASCAR driver Kurt Busch, comedian Ron White, chef Anne Burrell, Republic Nashville recording artist Cassadee Pope, Washington Redskin Rob Jackson, among others. Once again, Fox & Friends’ Brian Kilmeade emceed the evening and Foundation President Patricia Driscoll urged those in the room to help those suffering from the invisible wounds.

About the Armed Forces Foundation The Armed Forces Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to supporting and advocating for active-duty military personnel, National Guardsmen, Reservists, military families, and veterans. The AFF returns 95 cents of every dollar raised to service members and their families through our programs. Since 2001, the AFF has provided more than $95 million in assistance by covering travel, hotel rooms, home mortgages, car payments and everyday bills for families to be able to stay at their loved ones’ sides during treatment and recovery from wounds suffered during war. With the launch of our Help Save Our Troops campaign, the AFF proactively educates Americans about the hidden wounds of war, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and advocates for those troops and veterans who have suffered these hidden wounds. The ultimate goal of Help Save Our Troops is to reduce military suicides. Through this campaign, the AFF provides counseling services for military families, including children, grants for therapy and addiction counseling, and runs a variety of recreation group therapy programs to boost morale amongst service members, veterans, and their families.

Big Machine Label Group and Republic Records Revive Legendary Dot Records

    March 24, 2014 0 Comments

Industry Veteran Chris Stacey Tapped to Spearhead Resurgence as General Manager

Nashville-based Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta and New York-headquartered Republic Records CEO Monte Lipman announced today a joint venture to revive the iconic, multi-genre Dot Records label. Borchetta and Lipman’s previously created joint venture, Republic Nashville, was founded in 2009 and remains under the BMLG umbrella in Nashville. Similarly, Dot Records will be located on Music Row and will utilize the combined resources of Big Machine and Republic Records.

Industry veteran Chris Stacey has been tapped to spearhead Dot Records as General Manager. Stacey most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head of Promotion at Warner Music Nashville. He has a 20-year career working with acts across various genres such as Bob Dylan, Coldplay, Counting Crows, John Mayer, Joss Stone, Shania Twain, Blake Shelton, Hunter Hayes and Willie Nelson.

While no artists have been announced to the Dot Records' roster, the label is carefully -- and aggressively -- looking for talent around the globe.

In 1950, electrical appliance store owner Randy Wood founded Dot Records just outside Nashville in neighboring Gallatin, Tenn. Wood’s entry into the music business began when he started to sell Classical and Pop records in his store, Randy’s, and soon noticed that his customers were more interested in purchasing records of the artists they were hearing on the local Nashville radio station WLAC. As a result of this demand, Wood created a mail-order record business and renamed his store Randy’s Record Shop. His passion for delivering great music to his customers inspired him to take his business one step further in which he decided to become part-owner of a local daytime-only radio station. When the day’s broadcast would come to a close, Wood brought local talent into the station’s studio, recording original music that led to the now legendary Dot Records. Much like the Big Machine Label Group and Republic Records, Dot Records garnered rapid success because of its ability to find, develop and market great music. Dot became known for producing music that spanned genres, ranging from Country to Pop to R&B and Bluegrass. Over 100 artists released music on Dot Records from 1950 to 1978 including Barbara Mandrell, Pat Boone, Roy Clark, The Fontane Sisters, The Surfaris, Freddy Fender and Lawrence Welk.

The original Dot Records catalogue is now owned by the Universal Music Group, parent company of Republic Records.

"The first question we will get is 'why start another imprint?' The answer, quite simply, is 'it's time!'. We are again at the dawn of change in the music industry," said Borchetta. "When we started Big Machine in 2005 we were at the very beginning of artists properly utilizing social media to cut through the noise and engage fans. Today, that is not news by any stretch, it's part of every day life and as we transition into different digital models, hitting the reset button with another great executive, Chris Stacey, and reactivating the great Dot Records brand makes all the sense in the world. New executive strength and vision and the ability to sign new and exciting artists has always been the culture of the Big Machine Label Group. This is a very exciting day!"

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me. To be able to create a brand new label under the BMLG umbrella with all of their resources is a dream come true,” said Stacey. “The chance to team up with Scott and Monte & Avery is what every record exec dreams of! To have the freedom of an independent label with the global capabilities of a major is truly the best of both worlds. I am proud to lead the charge of taking the historic Dot brand and turning it into a force in todays new model music business," he continued.

Dot Records is poised for success given the achievements of BMLG and Republic’s initial venture. In just five years, Republic Nashville launched record-breaking superstar duo Florida Georgia Line, multi-platinum sibling trio The Band Perry, Grammy-nominated Eli Young Band and Platinum-certified winner of “The Voice” Cassadee Pope. Republic Nashville has scored eleven #1 hits and seventeen Top 10 singles, released eight albums that have sold nearly 5 million copies and over 30 million tracks — all solidifying the label as a major player even beyond Music Row. Additionally, Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise" is the best-selling digital Country single of all time.

Billboard magazine named Big Machine Label Group the #1 independent label in 2013 while Forbes magazine called it “Country’s Hottest Label.” Merely eight years since it opened its doors, BMLG artists have sold over 40 million albums worldwide. The BMLG umbrella encompasses three sister labels including Big Machine Records, The Valory Music Co. and Republic Nashville.
