THE MAVERICKS PERFORM AT HILLSBORO TO RAISE FUNDS FOR WE THE PEOPLE

    March 20, 2014 0 Comments

On Thursday, March 27, The Mavericks will perform right in the Hillsboro High auditorium for a very special fundraiser for We The People. Tickets are $10 for this distinctive acoustic performance, and doors open at 6:00. There will be a few fabulous items available by silent auction in the lobby, as well as concessions.

We The People is a civics and government program offered at Hillsboro that turns AP Government students into experts on specific constitutional issues. Under the leadership of AP Government teacher Seth Swihart, We The People team members present a four-minute opening statement in a simulated congressional hearing, followed by six minutes of questions from a panel of judges. The Hillsboro team has represented the state of Tennessee in six of the last 10 national competitions and will again represent Tennessee at the upcoming national competition in Washington, DC. Funds raised at this concert will help offset the approximately $1,500 per student cost of traveling to DC for the competition.

The Mavericks are self described as a “country-steeped garage band with a Cuban American lead singer that emerged from Miami in 1989 with… equal parts innocence, intensity and vintage influences.” Reunited in 2012 after an eight-year pause, the Grammy Award winning band is back, to the delight of fans old and new. THE MAVERICKS CELEBRATE OVER TWO DECADES TOGETHER WITH NEW TWENTY-FIVE

January 22, 2014 By LIVE TOUR BEGINNING FEBRUARY 27 0 Comments

Celebrating over two decades of performing together, THE MAVERICKS will embark on the 25 LIVE TOUR February 27 with the same fervor and euphoria they have been known for. The GRAMMY Award-winning group, who the Village Voice proclaimed, “in a word or three, the Mavericks are cool as sh*t,” scored a slot on The Boston Globe’s Top 10 Concerts of 2013.

“While the band was formed in the summer of 1989, our first show wasn’t until months later … making 2014 our twenty-fifth year together and we’re very excited to get back out on the road,” says guitarist Robert Reynolds. “In many ways, our fans have become de facto members of the group and it seems high time we throw a party!”

In spite of an indefinite divergence in 2004, The Mavericks musical connection never fizzled and last February, Cuban-American frontman Raul Malo and vivacious musicians Paul Deakin, Robert Reynolds, Eddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden reconnected to release a new album IN TIME (The Valory Music Co.). The band's return has sparked critical-acclaim for both their new music and exhilarating live shows. No Depression said, “…the energy of a locomotive barreling down a track at a hundred miles an hour. The chemistry between these guys is so good that you wonder why they ever split up.” Armed with an unmatched sound and fresh songs, it’s no wonder the project found its way onto many music critics’ Best Of lists, including American Songwriter, The Boston Globe, NPR, Los Angeles Times and New York Magazine.

The Mavericks’ music has most recently been featured in the movie GRUDGE MATCH and ABC’s new TV drama “Killer Women,” in which the band also made a cameo appearance performing "Dance In The Moonlight."

Fans will be treated to new music and hits like “Here Comes The Rain,” “Crying Shame,” “Dance The Night Away” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down,” which earned The Mavericks a plethora of industry awards.

THE MAVERICKS RELEASE DATE FOR IN TIME MOVES TO FEBRUARY 26TH

    January 10, 2013 0 Comments

Grammy-winning group, THE MAVERICKS, move the release of In Time, their first studio album in ten years, to February 26, 2013.

Currently sailing the high seas on the Sandy Beaches Cruise the band will return to Nashville for a performance on The Grand Ole Opry on January 19th before heading across the pond for a sold-out show at the Celtic Connection in Glasgow, Scotland on January 22nd.

With their new album, time melts once again and the band that defied definitions, blurred genres and made everybody feel good, is back. Whether it’s the Buck Owens-influenced “Dance In The Moonlight,” the panoramic Orbison-esque “Born To Be Blue,” the horn punctuated retro noir “Back In Your Arms Again” or Tejano-esque “All Over Again,” the Mavericks have once again found the way to make soul music and sole music.

For original members Raul Malo, the lead singer with the rich supple voice that’s second to only Roy Orbison in its ability to convey lonesome, desire and vivre; drummer Paul Deakin and multi-instrumentalist Robert Reynolds; as well as longtime collaborator keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden and seasoned guitarist Eddie Perez, life has made them richer in terms of experience, playing acumen and a sense of their own musicality. It has also deepened the connection between them in a way that heightens the singular chemistry that made the Grammy-winning band one of the most exciting live propositions in any musical genre.

The band's "Come Unto Me," was featured on ABC's "Nashville" on Wednesday Jan. 9.

The tour will kick off in March with tour dates being announced next week.

    Tour dates:

January 19 Grand Old Opry Nashville, TN

January 22 Royal Concert Hall Glasgow, Scotland (SOLD OUT)

February 25 Bowery Ballroom New York, NY (Pre release concert)
