(AUDIO) Tim McGraw Is Putting The Focus On The Music On His New Tour

April 28, 2013

Tim McGraw will kick off his Two Lanes of Freedom Tour this Thursday, May 2nd, and he says the biggest thing that will set this tour apart from his past tours is the music. “I think we’re playing more new songs than we ever have on this tour… We’ve always tried to introduce new material and play new stuff off the album and had quite a few new songs, but this time we’ve got, I wanna say six or seven new ones off the new album.” Tim also says he and the band have planned some cool musical transitions between songs. “I think that that’s something we’ve always tried to do and we’ve gotten more and more into doing that throughout the years of touring and this year there’s some really cool moments in between songs that I think people are gonna remember.” More than anything Tim says the focus will be on the music verses huge production or tricks. “I’ve never been a big gag person in a show anyway so we don’t have a ton of those kind of big cool things that happen all the time,” he says, “But there’s gonna be some great stuff going on, on the stage. For me the first thing is how it sounds, and it’s just gonna sound smokin’. I mean, the band just really sounds great.” Tim is also excited to bringing Brantley Gilbert and Love and Theft with him as his opening acts because he says, “Brantley’s doing great. He’s just making great music. His tracks, his songs – just so much energy and I think it’s gonna be great combination of our crowds. And then Love & Theft – I’ve worked with before and I’m a big fan of those guys. They really make great music… I just really think it’s gonna be a great well-rounded show.” The Two Lanes of Freedom Tour will visit 30 cities through July. You can see a complete list of cities and dates here.

I just really think it’s gonna be a great well-rounded show.”

“I think we’re playing more new songs than we ever have on this tour. I mean we always, I think throughout my career … however many years it’s been it’s been a long time, I think twenty-something years … we’ve always tried to introduce new material and play new stuff off the album and had quite a few new songs, but this time we’ve got, I wanna say six or seven new ones off the new album. I think the thing that the fans are gonna see more than anything that we’ve been working towards for years now is the little moments that happen in between songs musically. I think that that’s something we’ve always tried to do and we’ve gotten more and more into doing that throughout the years of touring and this year there’s some really cool moments in between songs that I think people are gonna remember."

“I don’t know that we could say that there’s like all these different gags. I mean, I’ve never been a big gag person in a show anyway so we don’t have a ton of those kind of big cool things that happen all the time. But there’s gonna be some great stuff going on, on the stage. For me the first thing is how it sounds, and it’s just gonna sound smokin’. I mean, the band just really sounds great and you’re gonna see some really cool stuff on stage but for me it’s just all about playing new music too. We’re gonna play a lot of new songs.”
