(AUDIO) Tim McGraw Surpasses Goals But Still Has A Lot More To Do

June 2, 2013

Tim McGraw is without question a super star in country music and he knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a star, but he says that is only part of what has driven him all these years. “I think anybody that tell you that wants to be an artist, they wanna be a successful artist,” explains Tim. “It’s sort of a two-lane road that you run down. On one hand, you wanna be the biggest artist there ever was and you have that dream of being bigger than anybody. And on the other hand, you just wanna make a living at it. I think those two things push you all the way along ‘cause if you can make a living at it, you’ll make a living at it, but if you can be the biggest artist out there, you’ll wanna be the biggest artist out there and then you hope you land somewhere in the middle.” While most people would say Tim has achieved both goals, he says, “I moved to town, to Nashville, and wanted my music to do everything it could do. And on one road it’s done more than I ever thought it could do and on the other road, I’m still climbing and think there’s a lot more I can do.” Tim’s latest single, “Highway Don’t Care,” has just become his latest #1 hit in his 20 year career.

“I always thought I was gonna be an athlete, growing up. That was one of my main focuses. I sang in church, sang at people’s weddings and stuff like that. Sang in a band, every now and then on weekends. When I got into college, my first semester of college I started playing the guitar pretty regular. At the end of the summer, I started playing gigs for tips with me and a guitar, I was pretty hooked in it. Now, I think anybody that tell you that wants to be an artist, they wanna be a successful artist, it’s sort of a two-lane road that you run down. On one hand, you wanna be the biggest artist there ever was and you have that dream of being bigger than anybody. And on the other hand, you just wanna make a living at it. And on one road it’s done more than I ever thought it could do and on the other road, I’m still climbing and think there’s a lot more I can do.”
