(AUDIO) Tim McGraw Keeps Music As The Focal Point

July 14, 2013

Tim McGraw has done some acting, he’s put out his own cologne and he’s always looking for different opportunities in his career, but he says music is and always will be the focal point in his life. “Anything that’s happened in my life has been really good - meeting my wife, the things that I’ve been able to do in my career, being in movies - it all comes from music,” explains Tim. “Music has sort of been the gas pedal to anything that’s happened in my life. All those things are driven musically. That’s what’s gotten me to this point. When things weren’t very good in my life, I had music that I could count on.” Tim realizes without music he likely wouldn’t have had the opportunities he’s had up to this point. “I don’t think that I could ever, ever consider doing a movie without knowing that music’s the reason I’m doing it,” he says. “They weren’t gonna come pick me off the street and say, ‘Hey, you wanna come be a movie star and be in my movie?’ That would never happened had I not had a hit record. That’s where my heart is. That’s the one thing I feel like I can do well.” Tim just released his latest single, “Southern Girl,” off his Two Lanes of Freedom album.

Tim McGraw – music remains centerpiece 1:05

“Anything that’s happened in my life has been really good - meeting my wife, the things that I’ve been able to do in my career, being in movies - it all comes from music. Music has sort of been the gas pedal to anything that’s happened in my life. All those things are driven musically. That’s what’s gotten me to this point. When things weren’t very good in my life, I had music that I could count on. I could have music that I could fall back on. And then when I had my family…when things weren’t going good, I had my family that I could fall back on. But there was always music. Always music that propelled everything forward. There’s always music that sort of could take you away; could bring you back. So I don’t think that I could ever, ever consider doing a movie without knowing that music’s the reason I’m doing it. They weren’t gonna come pick me off the street and say, ‘Hey, you wanna come be a movie star and be in my movie?” That would never happened had I not had a hit record. That’s where my heart is. That’s the one thing I feel like I can do well.”
