(AUDIO) Edens Edge Recall Small Town Halloween

October 28, 2012

Halloween is just a few days away, and Hannah of Edens Edge recalls what it was like to celebrate in her tiny hometown in Arkansas. “We never bought Halloween costumes and we never decided what we were gonna be until like the day of. It was always like this really spontaneous like let’s pull whatever’s around the house and make up a fun costume. You know, every once in a while we might buy a mask or something. But other than that we really kind of created our own costumes, which was cool.” The other thing she loved about Halloween in a small town is that it was not unusual for neighbors to hand out homemade treats instead of store-bought candy. “My favorite ever was, all the old women would make popcorn balls,” says Hannah. She loves them so much that she tried to make them a couple of years ago, but she says, “They weren’t as good as the ones when I was a kid. But I always remember the popcorn balls. Those were my favorite.”

Hannah – “For Halloween when I was a kid we never bought Halloween costumes and we never decided what we were gonna be until like the day of. It was always like this really spontaneous like let’s pull whatever’s around the house and make up a fun costume. You know, every once in a while we might buy a mask or something. But other than that we really kind of created our own costumes, which was cool. And I grew up in a town with like 50 people, and in small towns people are not afraid to give people homemade candies. So my favorite ever was, all the old women would make popcorn balls. And a couple of years ago, remember, I went on this popcorn ball tangent. I made like a million popcorn balls and they weren’t as good as the ones when I was a kid. But I always remember the popcorn balls. Those were my favorite.”
