(AUDIO) Justin Moore Pays Touring Lessons Forward

April 14, 2013

Before Justin Moore kicked off his own headlining tour last month, he had a chance to open for a lot of big tours including Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, and he says, “I’ve learned a lot of really beneficial things over the years from everybody,” says Justin, whose latest single, “Point At You,” is currently climbing the charts. But the most important lesson he learned about headlining a successful tour is basically the Golden Rule, to treat everybody the way you want to be treated. “Every time I’ve went out and been an opening act playing for twenty minutes, every headliner made me feel like I was a very important part of their tour and what they were doing,” explains Justin. “I think when you treat people with respect they tend to give it right back to you, and they go out and put on a great show and wanna do like we’ve wanted to do over the years. They wanna go out there and put on a heck of a show, obviously, for themselves, but they also want people to leave there going, “Man. What a great tour that Justin’s having.” So not only is it the right thing to do, but Justin knows it makes for the best overall touring experience when you treat everyone with respect and that’s why he says when it comes to his opening acts, “We’re definitely going to treat them like family.”

Justin Moore – lessons from tours 1:12

“I’ve learned a lot of really beneficial things over the years from everybody. You take something a little different from. But the best lesson, I think, is the old adage that treat everybody the way you wanna be treated. I know that’s kinda cliché but it’s the truth. Every time I’ve went out and been an opening act playing for twenty minutes, every headliner made me feel like I was a very important part of their tour and what they were doing. I think when you treat people with respect, they tend to give it right back to you, obviously, and they go out and put on a great show and wanna do like we’ve wanted to do over the years. They wanna go out there and put on a heck of a show, obviously, for themselves, but they also want people to leave there going, “Man. What a great tour that Justin’s having,” and we’ve tried to do that in the past when we’ve opened for people. We’d go out and put on the best show we can and have a great time. Have everybody leaving there going, “Man, Eric Church’s tour was just great” or Miranda Lambert’s or whoever. Hopefully they’ll have the same mentality out there with me because we’re definitely going to treat them like family.”
