THE MAVERICKS PERFORM AT HILLSBORO TO RAISE FUNDS FOR WE THE PEOPLE

March 20, 2014

On Thursday, March 27, The Mavericks will perform right in the Hillsboro High auditorium for a very special fundraiser for We The People. Tickets are $10 for this distinctive acoustic performance, and doors open at 6:00. There will be a few fabulous items available by silent auction in the lobby, as well as concessions.

We The People is a civics and government program offered at Hillsboro that turns AP Government students into experts on specific constitutional issues. Under the leadership of AP Government teacher Seth Swihart, We The People team members present a four-minute opening statement in a simulated congressional hearing, followed by six minutes of questions from a panel of judges. The Hillsboro team has represented the state of Tennessee in six of the last 10 national competitions and will again represent Tennessee at the upcoming national competition in Washington, DC. Funds raised at this concert will help offset the approximately $1,500 per student cost of traveling to DC for the competition.

The Mavericks are self described as a “country-steeped garage band with a Cuban American lead singer that emerged from Miami in 1989 with… equal parts innocence, intensity and vintage influences.” Reunited in 2012 after an eight-year pause, the Grammy Award winning band is back, to the delight of fans old and new.
