(AUDIO) Taylor Swift Knew Her Album Cover As Soon As She Saw It

July 21, 2013

Taylor Swift just released the title track from her latest album, Red, and she says the cover photo for that album was unique in that she knew right away, as soon as she saw the picture that it was the one for the cover. The shoot was actually done in her friend’s backyard and she says, “The photographer, Sarah, is a friend of mine. She’s really young, she’s really wonderful and she’d never done an album shoot before.” Taylor says the reason she knew the photo was the cover as soon as she saw it is because, “It’s really mysterious and you don’t quite know what I’m thinking and you can’t quite see me, but it’s got this kinda shocking red lip that’s the focal point.” To date, Red has sold over 3.7 million copies in the U.S. and over 6 million copies worldwide.

“Well, the cover photo is a picture that was taken in my friend’s backyard. The photographer, Sarah, is a friend of mine. She’s really young, she’s really wonderful and she’d never done an album shoot before. I guess the story behind the cover shoot is that as soon as I saw that photo, I knew that was the cover; I just knew. And we’ve never had that happen before. We’ve always been like, “Well, maybe this one – maybe that one --- maybe that one” but I knew it when I saw this photo because it’s really mysterious and you don’t quite know what I’m thinking and you can’t quite see me, but it’s got this kinda shocking red lip that’s the focal point.”
