(AUDIO) Taylor Swift Leaves Her Songs Open For Interpretation

August 25, 2013

Taylor Swift is notorious for never confirming who her songs are written about, but it turns out she’s not just trying to maintain a bit of privacy. “That’s kind of something that I love keeping to myself, never really revealing who exactly these songs are about because I like for people to be able to paint their own picture of whether they want to think about … their ex boyfriend or someone they know.” Besides leaving it vague so that people can apply the songs to their own life, Taylor says she also wants to give people a chance to make up their own mind about who she was writing about, like in her latest single, “Red.” “It’s all up to them,” says Taylor, “because I’m never telling.”

“For me, yeah, there’s a lot of curiosity about who each song is about and that’s kind of something that I love keeping to myself. Never really revealing who exactly these songs are about. Because I like for people to be able to paint their own picture of whether they want to think about their ex boyfriend or someone they know or make up their own mind about who they think I wrote it about. It’s all up to them, because I’m never telling.”
