Job Title: Director, Streaming & Playlist Strategy

Position Overview

BMLG is looking for a Director of Streaming & Playlist Strategy, focusing across all genres. This role will focus on streaming growth, playlisting strategy, and promoting our new releases across all DSPs (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, etc.). This role will be responsible for building strong relationships at our partners, analyzing data, and developing/optimizing our streaming strategy across our labels’ releases with primary focus on playlisting and product strategies.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Primarily responsible for working with DSP/Streaming partners for placement and maximization of BMLG releases to appropriate playlists within the DSP platforms (i.e., Spotify, Apple, Amazon, YouTube, etc).
  • Primary focus is global playlists but will also be responsible for understanding global playlisting impact in US and will help to communicate and work in tandem with our International team to strategize and formulate international plans and efforts.
  • Develop strong relationships across our streaming partners; working with our DSP partners to drive message and release strategy utilizing marketing, cultural capital and data to drive consumption of our repertoire
  • Create customized playlisting strategy and approach for each artist on roster and communicate effectively both internally and externally to label and artist management team members
  • Work in collaboration with BMLG's data and finance teams team and Stream Team account leads to align streaming strategy with overall account strategy for each artist releases.
  • Responsible for ensuring artist roster and profiles on DSP platforms are organized and maintained according to best practices and optimized for maximizing fan engagement, discovery and revenue and based on project goals .
  • Optimize existing and create new catalog and frontline playlists; implement strategies to achieve/exceed growth, revenue, market share, engagement and retention goals
  • Effectively communicate insights, analysis, opportunities, and recommendations with partners to improve our business; this communication will occur both internally, to our artists/management partners and to DSP partners.
  • Work with in-house label partners to drive strategy and deliver necessary assets for the best go-to-market approach, while being available for meetings as a resource for advice, providing regular reporting, etc.
  • Use consumer insights and analytics to inform effective playlisting initiatives, commercial and marketing decisions
  • Use insights and data from partner feeds to understand overall health of a track, source of stream, engagement, etc in order to help inform best strategy and pivot to alternate approached based on track performance.
  • Learn and share best practices across all internal teams and generally continue to educate label and artist/management partners as the streaming platforms continue to evolve their offerings and platforms.

Qualifications

  • Previous administrative experience preferred (managing an executive calendar, knowledge of travel logistics, etc.)
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with additional programs/software like Mediabase, Music Connect, Adobe Photoshop, Concur, Smartsheet, various CRMs, etc. preferred but not required.
  • Proactive with strong time management and organizational skills, and a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects and duties on a daily basis with a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility with an ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Job Title: Manager, Synchronization Licensing Administration & Copyright Enforcement

Essential Job Functions

  • Facilitate the synchronization license process from beginning to end for record label and Big Machine publishing company, including but not limited to issuing quotes, obtaining artist approvals, issuing licenses, and ensuring timely payment received
  • Facilitate and issue clearance waivers for publishing and record label
  • Secure clearances from publishers and/or other third parties for label projects as needed
  • Manage YouTube Content ID and Facebook Rights Manager for Big Machine publishing company
  • Manage YouTube claiming process for record label and resolve disputes as they arise
  • Upload and monitor assets in various monitoring systems and take action as needed
  • Work, communicate, and collaborate with various internal departments to ensure best practices as it relates to synchronization licensing and copyright enforcement

Job Title: Accounts Payable Specialist

Key Functions:

  • Process accounts payable on a daily basis applying proper codings by business unit, department, class, general ledger account, and recoupability for each transaction
  • Ensure departmental approvals and accompanying documentation are complete and received via a Purchase Order or General Manager approval prior to processing.
  • Run point on ACH vendor setup in City National Bank’s Book 2 Bank web portal
  • Enter vendor banking information & payment notificiation email addresses
  • Prepare weekly bank deposits for Big Machine Label Group, Big Machine Music, and Atlas Music Publishing
  • Assist with quarterly and semi-annual royalty processing by pulling of artist expenses
  • Review/format expenses for proprer account coding and recouability per ERA
  • Process company 1099’s annually
  • Extract UPS weekly billing statements from website and prepare weekly jouranl entries applying proper codings by business unit, department, class, general ledger account, and recoupability (if applicable) for each transaction
  • Prepare monthly postage report and accompanying jounral entry
  • Research vendor inquires regarding payment status
  • Respond to vendor and departmental inquries within 24 hours of receiving request
  • Organize weekly manual check run by attaching invoice backup to each check for approval by Controller
  • Mail signed checks weekly and provide updates to vendors as necessary
  • Assist other Finance staff with Concur expense report processing as needed
  • Assist with pulling documentation for audits including invoices and/or deposit backup

Education:

  • Degree in Accounting or Music Business related field prefered

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of accounts payable and/or general accounting experience prefered
  • Prior record label or business management experience prefered
  • Prior history of working in NetSuite, SAP, or similar accounting software prefered

The Rights Management department facilitates day-to-day rights management operations for both the Big Machine Label Group and Big Machine Music.  This position will have a heavy emphasis on Big Machine Music’s publishing administration, metadata set up and delivery. Tasks include but are not limited to, copyright assignments, registration of work with PRO’s, copyright registrations, preparation and issuing of mechanical and digital licenses for Big Machine Music.

 

Job Functions

  • Enter new Big Machine Music publishing works into Counterpoint.  Work with publishing creative team on deliveries as needed
  • Register Big Machine Music works with sub publisher, partners and PRO’s including follow through to ensure accuracy
  • Issue label copy for Big Machine’s publishing company, Big Machine Music.
  • Facilitate process for Big Machine Music mechanical and digital licenses, including set up in royalty system, and preparation of licenses.
  • Prepare and facilitate Big Machine Music’s assignments of copyright

Job Title:  Senior Manager/Director - Talent Publicity & Communications - Rock

Position Overview

Big Machine Label Group is the No. 1 independent record label in the world. This position will be responsible for talent publicity for the rock/alternative acts across Big Machine Records, The Valory Music Co., BMLG Records and Big Machine/John Varvatos Records.  

 

Essential Job Functions

  • The role reports to the Head of Communications but works closely with imprint General Managers on developing and executing media campaigns for BMLG artists with specific target lists for each active project, including print, TV, and online targets
  • Serve as liaison between label artists and media with regard to publicity campaigns and digital ideas 
  • Build trust within company and externally with managers, agents, and talent 
  • Use creative thinking to strategize and execute publicity campaigns across broadcast, online, print, and social media 
  • Secure and coordinate artist media appearances, publicity travel, press events including talk show appearances and in-person interviews 
  • Strategize awards campaigns and help deliver results for both the artists and label 
  • Prepare press releases, media alerts, biographies, and pitches for clients to successfully secure press opportunities 
  • Work with social media team on online marketing campaigns using digital influencers and social media around single releases, album releases, contesting, tour promotion, etc. 
  • Ideal candidate has some experience with sync placements and securing music licenses with media companies. 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of five years publicity experience at a record label, management firm or agency 
  • Strong domestic press relationships including NY, Los Angeles, and Nashville in the music space
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Must have a passion for Rock/Alternative music 
  • Must be knowledgeable and passionate about the media landscape as well as digital influencers in the Rock scene
