NASHVILLE, TN (May 9, 2018) – Celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week, DELTA RAE has relaunched a special initiative that honors educators at each of their tour stops. Tickets For Teachers offers free admission, merchandise packages and acknowledgement to deserving individuals at each of their shows. Rooted in gratitude for those who have inspired the band, they believe strongly in using their platform to create opportunities that spotlight the sacrifices and hard work of all teachers. “Tickets For Teachers was a highlight during 2017! We met close to 60 of the strongest, kindest, most generous and humble individuals of our lives and felt happily connected to all the nominators who recognized these community heroes,” shared Brittany Hölljes. “We know this has not been an easy year for teachers and we want to make sure that these incredible people — who help children, adults, folks with special needs, and those who just want to grow their skills to learn — are given our love, appreciation, and support."
Liz Hopkins continued, “We believe teachers deserve a night of free music and to hear from their students and loved ones about just how big a difference they make every day. We started this program to honor educators who challenge us to be the best versions of ourselves. If not for the teachers in our lives, Delta Rae wouldn't be doing what we love or sharing our music with longtime fans and first-time listeners.”
Comprised of former teachers Hopkins (lead vocals), Mike McKee (drums) and Grant Emerson (bass) alongside Hölljes siblings Brittany (lead vocals), Eric (vocals, piano) and Ian (vocals, guitar), Delta Rae learned to use their words and voices at an early age. Often inspired by Southern literature throughout their songs and aesthetic, Delta Rae chose their moniker from a mythical story the Hölljes siblings’ mother wrote and found inspiration from Ian's former English professor, renowned southern author, and dear friend Reynolds Price.
Since their 2009 formation in North Carolina, they have taken their four-part-harmony stories to fans on the road with robust headline tours and festival stages such as Country 2 Country in Europe, Stagecoach, Bonnaroo, Farm Aid, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and CMA Fest. The socially-conscious comrades shared with NPR Music how they’re finding a home in Nashville and why they strongly believe music should reflect their core values and “responsibility as citizen[s] to speak up when you see injustice happened in your community."
Their evolved lyrical journeys are layered across back-to-back releases from The Valory Music Co. – THE BLACKBIRD SESSIONS EP and A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE EP – as well as new music they’ve begun previewing at select tour dates. Upcoming shows include: Washington, DC on May 16 at The Hamilton; Wilmington, DE on May 17 at The Queen and New York, NY on May 18 at Gramercy Theatre. More shows have already been added throughout the summer, with others in the works soon. For up-to-date cities and more, visit deltarae.com/.
