FAST COMPANY NAMES BIG MACHINE LABEL GROUP ONE OF 2016’s “MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANIES”

NEW YORK, NY (February 18, 2016) – Fast Company named Big Machine Label Group on its annual list of the world’s Most Innovative Companies for 2016, honoring leading enterprises and rising newcomers that exemplify the best in nimble business and impactful innovation. Fresh off four GRAMMY wins earlier this week – including Taylor Swift’s 1989 taking Album of the Year – the Nashville-based BMLG was highlighted under the Music sector, marking the only record label to be listed alongside companies such as Spotify, Pandora and Shazam. Big Machine is identified for advocating artist rights associated with the company’s historic performance rights agreements and BMLG CEO Scott Borchetta’s longtime outspoken stance for such rights. Borchetta, who created the Music Has Value campaign last year, was recognized by Fast Company in 2013 as one of the “Most Creative People In Business.”

“This year’s package—which includes top ten lists in 27 sectors—emphasizes the breadth of companies with progressive, agile business models, cultures of creativity, and ability to adapt in today’s fast-paced world,” said Fast Company editor Robert Safian. BuzzFeed tops this year’s list followed by leading companies like Netflix, Uber, Amazon, Apple, Warby Parker and InstagramFast Company’s Most Innovative Companies issue (March 2016) is now available online at www.fastcompany.com/MIC as well as in app form via iTunes, and on newsstands beginning February 23.

Most Innovative Companies is one of Fast Company’s most significant and highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. To produce the 2016 list, the magazine’s editors spent a full year gathering and analyzing data on companies around the globe. For the first time, Fast Company enlisted machine intelligence to help inform the list: Quid, a San Francisco-based startup, used its software to create topographical maps of innovation across more than 40 sectors of the economy.
